Course Schedule – Fall 2024 / Art and Music / JAZZ: YESTERDAY AND TODAY

Coordinators: Sol Makon, Debbi Honorof

Jazz emerged in the Afro-American communities of New Orleans, during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Diverse musical styles evolved, presenting ragtime, blues, swing, bebop, cool jazz, free jazz, and more, to the general public. We will explore past iconic jazz composers, musicians, vocalists, dance artists, and more, who contributed to this distinguished musical genre, as well as the new generation of artists who sustain this vital tradition.
