Courses – Fall 2022 / Visual and Performing Arts / CONTEMPORARY OPERA

Coordinators: Steve Koenig, Frieda Lipp, Victor Brener

At each session, we view a different opera and engage in a lively discussion of the text, staging, medium and score.

This semester may include The Who’s Tommy, Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos, Joan Guinjoan’s Gaudi, Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Kurt Weill’s Threepenny Opera, Harry Somers’ Louis Riel, as well as electronic and jazz opera. We will compare productions and correlate them with historical and cultural events.
