About Quest
Quest is a community of retired and semi-retired intellectually curious people from all walks of life who are eager to learn in a relaxed, supportive environment. We are a not-for-profit organization with a diverse membership; we do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sexual orientation, disability, age, or religion. In fact, we feel that the more diversity we have in our membership, the more interesting are our classes and discussions.
Quest was born in 1995 when a group of retirees was successful in securing the daytime facilities of the Center for Worker Education (CWE) of the City College of New York (CCNY) to initiate a platform for lifelong learning, exchanging ideas, and developing new interests.
Today, Quest is a vital part of the CCNY family with nearly 245 active members who lead classes, self-administer more than 35 peer-taught courses each semester and actively participate in committee and social activities.
Classes are held twice each day, Monday through Thursday in the spring and fall: 10:30 AM – noon and 1:00 – 2:30 PM. Fridays are reserved for group visits to New York’s cultural institutions. In the summer, the Quest Summer Encore Program gives Quest members a second chance to see favorite presentations on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 10:30 to noon.
Hybrid classes at Quest In the spring of 2023, Quest offered 60% of its classes in hybrid form that enable members to join either in-person or using Zoom. In the fall of 2023, Quest will continue to offer hybrid classes. We believe coming together in person is the most effective means of learning and getting to know fellow Quest members, however we do recognize that some members are unable to attend in person. Thus, Quest will continue to offer hybrid courses for the foreseeable future. |
