Across the Universe is perfect for anyone who has ever wondered what the universe actually is, where it came from, and where it is headed.

Begin right here on Earth, soar through the Solar System, touch the stars and continue on towards the farthest reaches of the observable universe. Prior knowledge or any technical expertise in math or science is not required. Just bring your questions and sense of wonder.

Menu of Possible Classes

  • Asteroids Approaching! An exploration of the many minor bodies of the Solar System, their characteristics, and the potential threats they pose.
  • This Just in! (Part 1: The Solar System) The latest developments in space sciences and technology focused on our Solar System from the past year.
  • This Just in! (Part 2: Beyond the Solar System) The latest developments in space sciences and technology focused on beyond our Solar System from the past year.
  • The Telescope An examination of the history and the role this instrument has played in the exploration of the cosmos.
  • The Tools of Discovery An expansion of the subject of telescope to include all the technologies (especially space missions) in the study of the cosmos.
  • Taking the Measure of the Cosmos A continuing history of how science learned to measure our physical environment, from the Earth to the edge of the observable universe.
  • A Tour of the Solar System: Beginning with the Earth, a trip highlighting the major and minor bodies of our Solar System.
  • Beyond the Solar System A trip highlighting all that lies beyond our Sun and its planets.
  • History of Astronomers From the pre-technological lands of the Middle East and Asia, an anthology of the men and women who have studied and continue to, the wonders of our universe.
  • The Search for Life Are we alone or is the universe teeming with life? An examination of one of the most profound yet elusive questions facing humanity.
  • All the Light We can(not) See (The Physics of Light) An exploration of the nature and physics of the electromagnetic spectrum
