COURSES – FALL 2026 / Science / HOW THINGS WORK
Coordinators: Marty Green, Tamara Weinberg
Many of the things we interact with daily are so user-friendly that we only need to know how to operate them.
As a result, we usually know very little about how they work. Have you ever wondered, for example, what’s really happening when you have an x-ray taken, and the physics and engineering behind it? If so, you’ll find this course extremely interesting and informative.
We will discuss the things you encounter in a high-tech world, both physical and digital, that support our modern lifestyles. Among the many topics that will be covered are medical imaging technologies, automobiles, recycling, and the role of materials (metals, ceramics, polymers, and semiconductors) in enabling our high-tech society.
