The Mexican-American War receives only limited attention in our high school history textbooks, even though it laid the foundation for the country we live in today. The War was about much more than a land dispute. It was fundamentally driven by Americans’ growing belief in Manifest Destiny and the intensifying battle over the expansion of slavery. The War reflected the divisions in American Society and reshaped the nation’s future.
