Course Schedule – Fall 2023 / Literature / BOOKS OUT LOUD B

Coordinators: Harriet Finkelstein Larry Shapiro, Ruth Ward

In this class, participants will have the pleasure of reading out loud and discussing Maya Angelou’s I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.

It is a chronicle of an African-American girl growing up in the rural south in the 1930s, written at the end of the turbulent decade of the 1960s. It taps into the conscience of the nation grappling with civil rights and women’s liberation issues.

All are most welcome — to read out loud, to question, to comment, or to just listen and enjoy. As a full-length book cannot be read aloud and discussed in seven sessions, this course will meet every week.
